What trees do to a yard here
Trees grow fast here, and they grow in sand. A laurel oak puts on size in ten years that'd take twenty somewhere with a real winter, and the root plate under it spreads wide and shallow because it never had to dig deep for water. That's a fine arrangement right up until a wet summer softens the ground and a gust comes across the bay. Then the plate lifts on one side and the tree leans toward whatever's closest.
The one that gets people is rot you can't see from the kitchen window. Water oaks and laurel oaks hollow out from the inside while the outside keeps putting on leaves. What tells you is up in the crown: a limb with no leaves on it in July, a dark seam running down out of a crotch, a hollow knock on the trunk, mushrooms at the base after a wet week. By the time a limb like that lets go, it's taking gutter and fascia with it.
So every job starts the same way. We stand under the tree and look up before anybody quotes a dollar. What's dead, what's crossing, what's hanging over the roof, and whether the thing can be felled in one piece or has to come apart on ropes. Those are different jobs at different numbers, and you'll know which one you're getting before you agree to it.

Depends on the tree and on what's sitting under it. A laurel oak alone in an open back lot with room to fell it is nothing like the same tree leaning over a pool cage with a power drop on one side, because that one has to come apart in pieces on ropes. We look first. You hear the number before anybody starts.
Yes. Limbs go through the chipper and the trunk wood leaves on the trailer, unless you want rounds left for a fire pit, which plenty of people do. Ground gets raked before we back out of the driveway.
Grinding takes it below grade and turns it into a bowl of chips you can level off and sod over. The roots running out from it stay put and break down slow, which is fine under grass and beds. Tell us if a footing, a fence line or a pool is going in there, because that one has to go deeper and wider.
Brown fronds come off, anything hanging below level comes off, and the seed pods come off too if you're tired of sweeping them off the driveway. Cutting the green fronds up above horizontal, that look people ask for before a storm, strips the palm of what feeds it and leaves a thin weak head that snaps easier. So we take the dead and leave the green.
That's most of what we do here. The lots in Town 'n' Country and Westchase are tight, and the trees went in close to the block back when nobody pictured them full grown. It comes out in sections, each piece roped and lowered instead of dropped, tied off before the saw touches it. Slower work, and over a screen enclosure it's the only honest way.
What comes through a roof is nearly always deadwood or a limb that was already cracked at the crotch. Both are easy to spot from the ground before the wind finds them. Opening a canopy so air moves through it puts less sail on the tree too, and late spring is the sensible time to have somebody look up.
